On 27 September 2024, The NGO Forum on Cambodia (NGOF) participated in the Financial Sector and Civil Society Organization Forum on "Responsible Banking & Customer Protection and the Launch of the Consumer Complaint Handling Management Framework," held in Phnom Penh.
During his welcome speech, Mr. Soeung Saroeun, Executive Director of NGOF, emphasized the crucial role of civil society organizations (CSOs) in shaping policies that protect consumers in Cambodia's rapidly growing banking and financial sector. Mr. Saroeun highlighted the importance of financial literacy and effective consumer protection mechanisms, advocating for stronger partnerships between the financial sector and civil society to ensure responsible banking practices and to address customer grievances efficiently.
The event featured key stakeholders, including the National Bank of Cambodia, the Association of Banks in Cambodia (ABC), the Cambodia Microfinance Association (CMA), civil society leaders, and development partners, aiming to promote a transparent and responsible financial sector while strengthening public confidence through the launch of the new consumer protection framework.
