The 23rd of International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples in 2017


IP Day 2017 1

The International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples is annually organized in 09 August which preceding organized since 1994 until now. In 2017, there are estimate 370 million indigenous peoples in the world, living across 90 countries to celebrate and organize the 23rd of International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, under the theme: “10th Anniversary of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples”.

Thus, the CSOs, Minority groups, Indigenous Peoples and Forestry Network (IPFN) of the NGO Forum on Cambodia co-organized with Ministry of Rural Development to celebrate the 23rd of International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples on 09 August 2017 at old stadium, Kampong Thom Province. There were 1,100 participants who were from representative of Indigenous People from 15 provinces/cities, local authority, civil society organizations, students, and representative of OHCHR and media.

In this regard, we are indigenous people (IP) and civil society would request all relevant stakeholders, especially, government and line ministries to support and more active engage with indigenous people living in different area/province of Cambodia. The indigenous people and civil society would request for: 1. Accelerate the registration communal land title more possible which based on the plan and commitment of Ministry of Rural Development in term of timely issues letter on the recognition of 124 IP communities and Ministry of interior recognition of 111 IP communities. 2. Ministry of Rural Development forming technical working group for inter-ministries for Indigenous People Affaire which based on last meeting action point between Ministry of Rural Development and CSOs, and3. Increase national budget distribution in local community to build indigenous people museum in any provinces that not yet have.

NDC 3.0 Consultation Workshop in Siem Reap
On March 19, 2025, NGO Forum on Cambodia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and supported by OXFAM, HEKS|EPER, and the French Embassy, hosted a high-impact NDC 3.0 consultation workshop at Angkor Paradise Hotel, Siem Reap. 🔥 Key Takeaways: ✅ Mitigation: Promote renewable energy, waste management, and stricter environmental regulations. ✅ Adaptation: Enhance healthcare, sanitation, infrastructure, and livelihoods. ✅ Enabling Environment: Strengthen education, governance, and sustainable practices. 📊 42 participants (25 males, 14 females, and 3 LGBTIQ+) from Pursat, Battambang, Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey, and Kampong Thom joined the discussion. National Consultative Seminar on Indigenous Communal Land
On 19 July 2024, Indigenous Community Support Organizations in collaboration with the NGO Forum on Cambodia and other partner organizations organized a National Consultative Seminar on Indigenous Communal Land (ICLT) in Kampong Cham Province. This national consultation seminar was cooperated by relevant ministries, including the Ministry of Rural Development, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and the Ministry of Environment, with the participation of authorities, community representatives, civil society organizations and development partners with a total of 158 participants (37 females). Achievements and research results, challenges and suggestions were brought for discussion during the seminar. Dr. Thol Dina, Project Director of LASEDIII of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, mentioned the previous community registration, which resulted in 193 communities being recognized by the Ministry of Rural Development, 153 communities recognized as legal entities by the Ministry of Interior and 43 communities officially recognized by the Ministry of Land Management. Please be informed that Mr. Soeung Saroeun, Executive Director of the NGO Forum on Cambodia (NGOF) urges consideration of planning for resource and community development projects in addition to the current dialogue. In general, the content from the discussion, suggestions and recommendations are compiled and prepared as key notes for submission to the relevant ministry leaders for further discussion and address.
